Serge TREFEU: Hello how does that go, in shape?

SAGAT PETCHYINDEE: yes always in great shape

How old are you?

I am 35 years old… (Laughter), no, no, 53 years euh not, 55 years…

You come of what region of the Thailand?

I come from Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat) in Isaan (northeast)

You are married, have you children?

Yes, I have three children

Have you brothers and sisters?

Yes I am of a large family, we are ten children, I am the seventh…

You have brothers who also fought?

Yes we are boxer’s family. My small brother was a good boxer and my older brother a nakmuay very great, he was very strong, he was called Saksout!

You were a brawler when you were a child?

No, I began to fight when I have made of Muay Thai…

You began the boxing at which age?

In 11 years

Your first fight you made him for which age?

In 11 years two months only having begun the boxing…

How did you discover the boxing?

It’s my older brother who introduced me to the boxing, it’s him who me trained at the beginning. I had a good professor because it was a very big champion!

Then you began Muay Thai in a camp?

Not at first with my older brother at the house, and then I was in a temple near my home. There monks also taught me techniques of Muay Thai…

You were later in a camp in Bangkok?

Yes I went to the camp Petchyindee to Bangkok. I always stayed in Petchyindee till the end of my career…

In what category you fought?

In 140 lbs (63 kg)

In what stadium you the most fought?

I fought as much in Lumpinee as in Radja, approximately 50 fights in every stadium!

What are the titles which you gained?

I gained 11 belts in all!

I was three times a champion of the Lumpinee, three times champion of the Radja, World champion of Thai boxing, and World champion of Kickboxing!

In Boxing I was World Champion IBC, I gained the belt WBC Asian Boxing Concil, and the belt OPBF, I fought for world champion WBC’s belt against Wilfredo Gomez (World champion WBC with 20 defences victorious of his title!) but I lost, was it only my third fights in professional…

What was the first important belt which you gained?

I gained my first belt of Lumpinee against Kitty Sor Thanikul. Later I gained all my fights by KO, more nobody wanted to face me. Then I stopped boxing during one year. Then I come back my career, I met Krontee Sor Sonalan whom I beat by KO with a poke!

How much have you make of fights during your career?

317 fights, 266 Wins, 40 Losses and 11 Draws

You gained many fights by KO?

Yes a lot, I have a record of 151 victories by KO

You had which style of boxing?

I was Toymat (With fists)

You have made how much fight in Boxing?

I have make 14 fights professional with 12 victories (9 KO) and 2 defeats of which one in front of legendary Wilfredo Gomez!

What was your hardest fight?

In Muay Thai against Diesel Noi, I met him two times,It was very hard against him every time because Diesel was very strong, especially with the knees he hurt…

In Boxing against the World champion WBC Wilfredo Gomez because it is the only one to have put in me KO…

Your best memory of boxing?

My victory by KO against Wangwanloup Maturee in Lumpinee, I beat him twice by KO. It was a great champion. The first time when I beat him he had just won against Pud Pad Noi and after my victory on Wangwanloup I had to face Pud Pad Noi but he stopped his career…

What are the known Thai boxers whom you faced?

There was a lot, Kitty, Diesel Noi, Samart Prasanmirt, Krongsak, Krontee, Noomthanong, Wangwanloup, Nongkhai, Attapong, Nokweed…

What technique you liked making in fight?

All the techniques with fists, and also the techniques of elbows, I liked very much!

You often fought abroad?

Yes I fought in the United States, in Japan, in Australia, in Korea, in England…

You fought in France?

No I have never fought in France

Do you know French boxers?

No I don’t know too much the foreign boxers…

The best nakmuay Thai today, for you it is who?

I think that A Sam-A Thor. Rattanakiat is one of the strongest at present

Who was your promoter?

In Thailand it was Petchyindee and for the foreigner Songchai

What purse you touched most for a fight?

My best purse in Thailand was 450 000 bahts, abroad I often fought for purse a 25 000-dollar…

Today you stopped your career, which do you make?

I have my camp in Bangkok in the district of Laprao, I train over there. I also come to New Petchyindee Gym, here to Lumpinee. Otherwise I make television series and I also shoot in movies…

In what movie you acted?

In several movies but at the moment my best role was in the movie “Hello Professor”, it is a comedy…

You like to make the show?

Yes I like making the show, making the comic, I am a big actor and even a stuntman (laughter)!

What are your projects for 2011?

At the moment I concentrate on the preparation of my fight which will take place on March 25th…

You are going to put back gloves? Against whom?

Yes it is a big challenge for me because I am going to face a former big champion Pud Lao Lek. This fight it will make with a purse of a million of baths and will take place in the South of the country to Surathani, during a big event!

You got ready here in New Petchyindee Gym?

Yes and also in my gym, I have make many of sparring with Orono Por Muang Ubon (Former Lumpinee Champion), I am ready…

Sagat lost his fight in points against the former champion of the Lumpinee, Pud Lao Lek. This fight between these two dinosaurs of Muay Thai, 55 years for Sagat and 60 years for Pud Lao Lek, is unique in the anal of Muay Thai!

Sagat Petchyindee is a legend of boxing rings because he beat in his time the best of his category as Kitty Sor Thanikul, Wangwanloup Maturee, Krontee Sor Sonalan, Nongkhai Sor Prapatsorn, Samart Prasanmirt, Noomthanong Suanmisakawan!

Thanks to his power and his terrible punch he adds up an incredible number of victory by KO, more than 150 KO, a record!

So his famous Ram Muay is henceforth a reference in the schools of Muay Thai, he moreover received in 1977 the price of “Best Ram Muay” from these last ten years. The known video game “Streetfighter” all over the world integrated the character of Sagat among his virtual fighters, a great tribute to this exceptional warrior!
