The story of Lumpinee stadium was not still glorious, he even had a bloody period, especially in the 80s when he had several murders with firearm within the stadium.

The biggest tragedy was March 4th, 1988 with the murder of the promoter Chaiwat Palangwattanakit (Gnow Ha Phalang, owner of the famous camp Ha Phalang). The evening was organized by the promoter Songchai Ratanasuban, and during the star fight between Chamophet Ha Phalang (Best boxer of year 1985) and Langsuan Phayuthapum (Best boxer of year 1987), in the fourth round, gunshots were fired near the boxing ring. He had several deaths and many wounded persons in the public further to a monstrous jostling. A French spectator was even to hurt seriously and transported at the hospital. People ran away, leaving the corpses of the victims, it was a widespread panic. The promoter Songchai Ratanasuban, present in this evening, had to avoid the tragic scene by climbing the railings of the stadium!

That’s why security gates were then settled in the entrance of the stadium to detect the people who could hide a firearm, to avoid again such a slaughter…

THE SAD BLOODY NIGHT OF 4 MARCH TO THE STADIUM LUMPINEE

The stadium of Lumpinee was always managed by the army contrary to the stadium of Ratchadamnoen which belongs to the national police force.

Twenty two officers of the Thai royal army followed one another at the post of director of the stadium of Lumpinee, from 1957 to 2015. Most stayed in this post approximately three years.

The first director of Lumpinee stadium was Colonel Erb Seangrit who occupied director’s post from 1957 till 1961, and last director, today ready, is general Kasem Benjaniratisai who took up his post of director of Lumpinee in October, 2015.

GENERAL CHALERMKIAT PHOTONGNAK WAS THE DIRECTOR OF LUMPINEE OF 2008 TO 2010

So, the promoters were many since the creation of the stadium. The most renowned were Kleo Sor Thanikul and Songchai Ratanasuban.

Kleo reigned over the promotion of the fights in Lumpinee during the 70s and the beginning of the 80s. Kleo is a little considered as the father of the boxing in Thailand because it was one of the first ones and the more powerful promoter of the country. A promoter important in Thai boxing but also in Boxing, he did numerous events in these two disciplines.

Kleo Thanikul was one of the most important godfathers of the Thai mafia, he was executed on April 5th, 1991. On the avenue Pinklao Nakhon Chaisi, to Sam Phran near Bangkok, his car with his driver and his bodyguards fell in a real ambush. The killers left no luck to the occupants of the vehicle, the car was riddled with ball and exploded with M-16 grenade launcher, Master’s Kleo received near about sixty balls!

KLEO THANIKUL

IN 1983, KLEO THANIKUL ORGANIZED IN STADIUM OF LUMPINEE THE FIGHT OF DECADE BETWEEN BOTH LEGENDS SAMART AND DIESELNOI, THE BIGGEST PURSES OF THE 80S, WITH 350 000 BAHTS FOR SAMART AND 400 000 BAHTS FOR DIESELNOI!

Then, it’s the exceptional promoter Songchai Ratanasuban who is going to become the promoter N°1 of Lumpinee during more than 20 years, till the beginning of year 2000. Songchai goes innovated the promotion of the fights always by choosing very well-balanced matches between fighters of the same strength, the meetings which are fast going to seduce the aficionados of Muay Thai.

He contributes thus to the evolution of Muay Thai in his country by organizing of prestigious events in the stadium of Lumpinee. Mister Songchai Ratanasuban becomes then the biggest promoter of Thailand and will be nicknamed ” the golden hand ” or ” the promoter in the brain of diamond “.

Songchai was also one of the biggest promoter of organization in Boxing, he went up fabulous events to the stadium of Lumpinee such as the memorable world championship between both terrors in Boxing of the 80s, destroyer Khaosai Galaxy (47 victories, 1 defeat) and the bull Kongtoranee Payakaroon (12 victories, 2 defeats).

In the 2000s, the most influential promoter of Lumpinee was Mr Virat Wachirarattanawong nicknamed “Tycoon Nao”. But his promoter’s nickname was “Petchyindee” (The Happy Diamond).

The best boxers of the Thai circuit fought for Petchyindee who also had a many champions in his famous camp of Bangkok, Petchyindee Gym. Many of the great champions were under contract with Petchyindee, as the star of the country, Saenchai Sor Kingstar. As well as champions such as Yodseanklai, Orono, Samkor, Kaolan, Singdam, Kongpipop, Nopparat, Attachai, Duansomphong, Sakadpetch, Kaew, Supachailak, Sam-A, Kongsak, Nong O, Pornsanae, Singdam, the list of the champions who fought for Petchyindee is very long…

Mr Virat Vichirarattanawong made however WBC Asian Boxing Concil, authority of reference in Boxing in Asia. And it was one of the promoters N°1 in Boxing in South-East Asia. In 2005, he received the title from “Promoter of the year”!

His last promotion took place on December 8th, 2015. The famous promoter has retired, after more than thirty years of career, he makes way for his son Mr. Nuttadej Wachiraratanawong (Petchviset promotion) who is a promoter in the stadium of Radja. But in Lumpinee, the Wachiraratanawong family will still be one foot in the stadium with the nephew of the promoter Mr. Piyarat Wachiraratanawong (Petchpiya promotion).

The farewell evening of the promoter Petchyindee of December 8th in the stadium Lumpinee was unique with 12 belts in game, 8 belts of Thailand and 4 belts of Lumpinee!

THE PROMOTER PETCHYINDEE WAS ALWAYS NEAR THE RING WHEN HIS CHAMPIONS FOUGHT IN LUMPINEE

THE EVENT OF DECEMBER 8TH WITH 12 BELTS IN GAME!

Today, the promoter N ° 1 of Lumpinee is without context mister Peerapong Theeradejpon of his promoter Chun Kietpetch‘s name. In 68 years, in spite of he organizes since 40 years, he’s still the strong man in the stadium of Lumpinee. It’s at present the biggest promoter in Thailand.

Because Chun Kietpetch is also the promoter N ° 1 in the stadium TV7, the stadium which belongs to him half, the other half belongs to the army. With about 150 events by year including fifty in the stadium TV7, he’s still the most requested promoter.

Chun Kietpetch is often to be the cause of major promotions in the stadium of Lumpinee as the event of July 3, 2009 where champions of Radja came face the champions of Lumpinee with Norasing Lookbanyai against Palungpon Piriyanoppachai, Rungruanglek Lookprabat against Kaimookdam Sit O, Mongkonchai Petsupapan against Pettavee Sor Kittichai, Ponsanae Sitmonchai against Wutidet Lookprabat, Kungwanlek Petchyindee against Thongchai Tor Silachai, Nong-O Sit Or against Singtongnoi Por Telakoon, Sam-A Thor Ratanakiat against Pakon Sakyotin, and in main fight Saenchai Sor Kingstar who faced two champions to time Phetboonchu FA Group and Saketdao Phetpayatai!

Or even the same year, in March, one event with three titles of Lumpinee and a title of the stadium TV7 in game with Wirachai Wor Wiwatananon against Thanusuklek Or Kwanmuang (Belt of Lumpinee in 105 lbs), Rungpetch Wor Rungnirant against Singdam Chokganna (Belt of Lumpinee in 115 lbs), Petchboonchu F.A Group against Jomthong Chuwattana (Belt of Lumpinee in 126 lbs) and Rungrat Naratrikun against Farsaeng Petchjaopraya (Belt TV7 in 118 lbs).

The last big promotion of year 2015 organized by Chun Kietpetch was December 22nd with there main fight the current superstar Phanpayak Jitmuangnont (Best boxer of year 2013 and 2014) against Kaonar P.K. Saenchai for the belt of Lumpinee in 126 lbs, victory of the whiz kid Phanpayak!

Chun Kietpetch had under contract of the champions such as Narunart Sengsimaewgym, Rakkiat Kiatprapat, Maneedeang Kiatprapat, Nontachai Sit O, Sakedao Phetpayathai, Mongkolchai Phetpayathai, Noppadeat Sengsimaewgym, today he always has two terrors of the boxing rings which are Yodwicha Kemmuaythai and Wanchalong PK Saenchai Gym.

Chun is always very present but close also to the retirement as his big rival Petchyindee who passed on the torch to his son.

But Chun, as Petchyindee, is soon going to leave the commands of his promotion to his daughter, Miss Phanicha Theeradejpon (Phetkiatphet Promotion). She has already organized of big events in association with his father as that of November 10th, 2015 with Chujaroen Dabrunsarakam against Phetmorakot Wor Sungprapai, Yodwicha Kemmuaythai against Rithevada Sor Nipapon, Muangthai P.K. Other renowned current promoters of Lumpinee stadium are Mr. Pramuk Roatchanatun (Owner of the camp Por Pramuk who formed the star Buakaw), mister Tidipong Aomanun (Jar Tui, the owner of the famous camp Saengmorakot), Mr. Somboon Niruttimatee (Owner of the camp Eminent Air, camp of the champions Jomhod, Neungtep, Rung Ubon, Satanfaa, Chook), General Sutouch Pumpanmuang (Owner of the camp Fonjang Pumpanmuang to Chonburi, camp of the champions Pokeaw, Satanfaa, Phetmai)…

Since his creation, many foreign boxers fought in the Lumpinee stadium. But little foreigner was able to fight for a belt of Lumpinee and even less to gain it. So far, ten fighters not Thai had the honor to compete for a match for the belt of Lumpinee and only three were able to take down the Grail!

The first one was the Dutch puncher Ramon Dekkers (Rest in Peace) which faced the Thai Issara in 1992, Dekkers was defeated in points after a very close match…

« THE DIAMOND » DEKKERS IS ONE OF THE RARE FOREIGNERS TO HAVE FOUGHT FOR THE BELT OF LUMPINEE. AND FIGHT SEVERAL TIMES IN ” MAIN EVENT ” IN THE STADIUM OF LUMPINEE

In April, 1999, two French challenged Thai champions for the belt of Lumpinee, Mourad Sari and Stephan Nikiema. Sari gained the belt in 140 lbs against the Thai Somchaï. The champion Stephan Nikiema, the same day, had fought against Neungtrakan Por Muang Ubon for the belt of Lumpinee in 147 lbs. Nikiema had fallen in a trap, Thai did not allow him to gain the trophy so desired…

On February 26th, 2010, it’s the French champions Farid Villaume and Kamel Jemel that tried to take away the supreme title. This meeting France against Thailand in Lumpinee was organized by the promoter Chun Kietpetch in association with the French promoter Denis-Marie Cintura. Villaume will be defeated in points against Saiyok Pumpanmuang for the belt of Lumpinee in 154 lbs and Kamel Jemel is going to lose on TKO against Kongfah Auddomuang for the belt of Lumpinee in 140 lbs.

KAMEL JEMEL AGAINST KONGFAH AUDDOMUANG

THEY ARE NOT MANY THE FOREIGNERS WHO HAD THEIR POSTER ON THE WALL OF LUMPINEE STADIUM, FARID VILLAUME AND KAMEL JEMEL ARE A MEMBER OF IT

Finally, thing exceptional in the annals of Muay Thai, on October 29th, 2010, in Paris, a fight for a belt of Lumpinee was organized. It’s the first time when a belt of this stadium is competed in Europe. The French champion Abdallah Mabel faces the titleholder, Saiyok Pumpanmuang, Mabel is going to lose in points against formidable Saiyok …

On February 10th, 2012, the young phenomenon Damien Alamos is going to try the exploit to rob his belt to the champion of the Lumpinee 140 lbs, Kongfah Auddomuang, the one who had brought down Kamel Jemel in 2010. After a relentless fight where the Thai Kongfah will be counted and opened on a poke, the judges give their verdict, Alamos wins at points and becomes the new Champion of Lumpinee in 140 lbs in only 21 years!

DAMIEN ALAMOS IS THE ONLY FOREIGN CHAMPION A WINNING AND KEPT HIS BELT OF LUMPINEE (ONE DEFENSE VICTORIOUS AGAINST ARUNCHAI PRAN 26)

In 2014, once again, a belt of Lumpinee was competed outside the Thailand. March 9th, 2014, Thai Dechsakda Sitsongpeenong won a belt of Lumpinee in Japan. Dechsakda beat in points Japanese Kunitaka Fujiwara for the belt of Lumpinee in 122 lbs.

But Dechsakda left vacant his belt because he had to be in the armed forces in Thailand.

On May 11th, in Japan, the Thai Nutaphon Nachuakvitayakom beat Japanese Ito Nakatake for the vacant belt of Lumpinee in 122 lbs. Nutaphon kept his title, again in Japan, on April 19th, 2015, against Nakatake.

In 2016, it’s still French fighter who is lucky has the opportunity to compete for a belt of the stadium of Lumpinee.

Rafi Singpatong (World champion WBC and WMC, Winner of the Tournament Muay Thai Fury, Winner of the Tournament Max Muay Thai Silver) is a member of the last adventurers of boxing rings, become very rare, who make their career in the Kingdom of the Siam by facing the best Thai fighters of moment. For years, Rafi trains and fights for the famous camp of Phuket, the Singpatong Gym.

Step by step, he made his way by standing out hard in the Thai circuit and by beating the Thai champions in the ranking of the stadium of Lumpinee.

On September 3rd, 2016, Rafi had the honor to compete for a belt of the stadium Lumpinee in 147 lbs. For this belt of Lumpinee in the face of Pongsiri Por Siripong (TV7 Champion) Rafi lost by points after a terrible battle in which his opponent ended the stained with blood head, opened by several centimeters on the top of the crane. The Thai had 15 stitches after his match against French!

PONGSIRI AGAINST RAFI FOR BELT LUMPINEE IN 147 LBS (WEIGHT IN 142 LBS)

Eight months later, June 20th, 2017, both boxers find themselves to compete again for a title of the stadium of Lumpinee, the belt of Lumpinee in 147 lbs. Rafi makes an epic fight and beats Pongsiri in points. French enters the history of Muay Thai by becoming third foreign to the world to take away a belt of the mythical stadium!

At the beginning of 2010s, the stadium of Lumpinee begins little to decay, especially his roof which is in very bad state. But rather than to renovate completely the stadium, the persons in charge and the shareholders of the stadium decide to build an other one, a “high-tech” stadium which will replace the old stadium…

The construction of the new stadium of Lumpinee began in 2012, this immense stadium cost the paltry sum of 380 million baht.

TAKE IT TWO YEARS TO BUILD THE NEW STADIUM OF LUMPINEE

The new stadium opened in February 2014.

THE STADIUM OF LUMPINEE RESEMBLE NOW SOME FAMOUS TOKYO DOME IN JAPAN

The former stadium was in city center, near of districts very tourist but now it is situated in twenty kilometers from his location of origin.

The new stadium of Lumpinee is on the Ramintra Road, just next to the Thai Royal golf course Army. in the north suburb of Bangkok, not far from the former airport Don Muang today.

To reach this new stadium it’s more complicated because he’s completely ou of the way. The closest subway station ” Phahon Yothin ” is three kilometers of the stadium. Furthermore, the price of admission tickets considerably raise, especially for the foreigners. Since his opening, the promoters of this new stadium have difficulty in filling all their events…

The stadium can contain up to 5000 spectators and it is completely air-conditioned.

FOR THE BIG EVENTS THE STADIUM IS STILL FULL

Within this quite new stadium champion’s belts of the Lumpinee and the Thailand are competed always piercingly, but there is from now on a new belt for a tournament which is specially organized in the stadium of Lumpinee!
