INTERVIEW OF MR. JIT CHEOSAKUL (OWNER OF CAMPS RSM GYM)

by Serge TREFEU (2016)

Serge TREFEU: Hello MR. CHEOSAKUL, thank you for grant me this interview, you are the grandson of the founder of the famous stadium of Bangkok the Ratchadamnoen?

Mr. JIT CHEOSAKUL: Yes my grandfather Chalerm Cheosakul created the stadium of Ratchadamnoen in the 50s. In fact, the first director was a mister Pramote Puengsoonthorn who began in 1945, then my grandfather made end the stadium completely in 1950, then he was the director of the stadium during seven years…

You grew up thus in the world of the boxing?

Yes exactly

Is what you were a boxer before?

No I was never a fighter, I’m a just trained in Muay Thai, I continue to train to keep in trim

MR. CHEOSAKUL TRAINS REGULARLY AT MUAY THAI

Which is your function within the stadium of Ratchadamnoen?

I’m assistant director of Mr. Praï Panyalakshana

Mr. Praï is the boss of the stadium of Radja?

Not Mr. Praï is the director of the stadium, the boss of Ratchadamnoen it’s my father Mr. Chalermpong Cheosakul

You are a promoter of the stadium of Radja?

No I’m a manager, I’m a manager also for my boxer Benz who is in my camp

You have a camp in Bangkok?

Yes I have several camps, I possess five camps on Bangkok which is called RSM gym. R means Ratchadamnoen, S it’s Singha Beer, this mark of Thai beer is the official sponsor of the stadium of Radja and M wants to say Muay Thai

RSM GYM

Your camps are situated where in Bangkok?

They belong in several districts to Thonglor, Klongtoey, Chalenakorn, Onut, Thonburi…

You have many boxers in your camps?

No, camps are made to learn Muay Thai, it’s of former boxers who trains and who teach Muay Thai to the pupils. It’s not camps with professional boxers but rather for people who want to make of the exercise and to learn the bases of Muay Thai

You don’t have professional fighters in your camp?

No, I have that only one professional boxer it’s Benz who is a world champion WBC and who is also a trainer in my camp

MR CHEOSAKUL WITH HIS CHAMPION BENZ

Why you don’t have a team of professional fighters in your camp, it’s rather rare in Thailand?

Because I work within the stadium Ratchadamnoen and my father is the boss of one of the biggest stadiums of the country, then if I had professional boxers who fight within this stadium, everybody would think that they are favored, it would be very complicated for me to manage it…

You have many foreigners who come to train in your camps?

Yes enormously, many Korean and Japanese but also the European which come to learn Muay Thai. Also many women and some stars of the showbiz train in our camps…

What champion is one of most hardly in Thailand for you today?

I like Seanchai, I think that he’s still a member of the best boxers, Sangmanee I also like he’s very strong but there are many others…

This is the first time you come to France?

No the second time, the first time it was for the holidays and now I’m in Paris for manager my boxer Benz who is going to fight in the event Best Of Siam (Best Of Siam 9, on October 29th, 2016)

You travel for the business a lot?

Yes for the business and for the pleasure, I travelled in the United States, in England, in Japan, in Malaysia, in Singapore, in Laos, almost everywhere…

What think you of the place whom occupies Muay Thai at present in the world?

Muay Thai is all over the world recognized today, his cultural traditions and passed history is appreciated by a lot of people through the planet, it’s really the very good thing that more and more people like our sport and I’m very proud of it!

What are for you the biggest events of Muay Thai in the world, the Thai Fight maybe?

The Thai Fight is a big event for Muay Thai but fact of organizing fights in three round doesn’t suit me. For me, real Muay Thai has to be made with fights in five round as in the big stadiums of Bangkok. The Best Of Siam, for example, is an event which follows real values of Muay Thai, I prefer this kind of event to promote Muay Thai abroad even if the Thai Fight is very good all the same for the promotion of our sport…

BEST OF SIAM PROMOTION

Several foreign champions won a belt of the stadium of Radja, you think that it’s good for the promotion of Muay Thai that foreigners represent the stadium of Radja?

Yes of course, the Belgian Boughanem which is champion of the Radja is a real champion, he represents well our sport, there is also several Japanese which I don’t remember the names which took away belts of Radja, it’s a good thing for the promotion of the stadium Ratchadamnoen abroad. For Thai also it’s a good thing because they see that Muay Thai was exported well abroad, that maintaining foreign champions can compete with their champions!

Thank you very much for the interview and chookdee for the continuation of your projects

Thank you very much

It’s thanks to the grandfather of Jit Cheosakul, Mr. Chalerm Cheosakul that the stadium of Ratchadamnoen became a national institution of Muay Thai, it’s him who allowed the stadium to have a roof and an infrastructure of the most modern for the time (1950). Because in 1945, the stadium of Ratchadamnoen, the oldest stadium of Bangkok, was only an open-air stadium, it looked like more a Roman amphitheater than a stadium of boxing…

In 1953, Mr. Chalerm Cheosakul also established officially the company ” Rajadamnern Co Ltd ” for the organization of match of Muay Thai, a name which represents now Muay Thai all over the world!

MR. CHALERM CHEOSAKUL ONE OF THE FOUNDERS OF THE STADIUM RATCHADAMNOEN

The son of Mr. Chalerm Cheosakul, Mr. Chalermpong Cheosakul succeeded then his father in the function of Chief Executive of the stadium of Ratchadamnoen. Mr. Chalermpong Cheosakul managed the stadium of Ratchadamnoen from 1985 till 1996. Today, he’s still the official “boss” of the stadium of Ratchadamnoen. The current director of the stadium of Ratchadamnoen is a Mr. Praï Panyalakshana who has took up his post in 2001. With Mr. Jit Cheosakul, the grandson of one of the founders of the stadium of Ratchadamnoen, the dynasty of Cheosakul still has beautiful days to continue to write the story of the mythical stadium Ratchadamnoen!
