SIT MOR NAM MUAY THAI GYM, A BOXING CAMP WHERE THE SEEDS OF CHAMPIONS ARE BORN
by Serge TRÉFEU (2025)

Sit Mor Nam Gym is a small boxing camp founded by two enthusiasts, Mr. Thawan Kraisi, nicknamed Chang Tha, the camp’s manager, and Mr. Alongkorn Kraisi (Kru Nui), a boxing instructor and site director. Both brothers, they established this provincial camp a dozen years ago, driven by a shared vision: to train the fighters of tomorrow.

Mr. Alongkorn Kraisi aka Khru Nui has obtained all his higher instructor diplomas, becoming a certified Muay Thai teacher recognized by official bodies
Mr. Thawan Kraisi and Mr. Alongkorn Kraisi are extremely proud of their young champions
Chang Tha and Khru Nui are two truly passionate people, driven by the desire to pass on to their students much more than just fighting techniques: the deep values and respect of Muay Thai

Initially established in the Ubon Ratchathani region, the camp was later moved to the neighboring province of Sisaket, in the heart of Isaan, in the remote village of Ban Phayu, about 25 km from the town of Sisaket. It is in this deep countryside, amidst pastures where buffalo and cows graze, some of which belong to the camp’s owner, that the Sit Mor Nam Gym has found its home.

The cow and rooster enclosure adjoins the boxing camp structure, a reminder that Sit Mor Nam Gym is firmly rooted in the Thai countryside

Here, the land is harsh, daily life demanding, and yet, it is on this austere land that the seeds of future champions germinate. In this authentic region, many great names in Muay Thai were born. The Sit Mor Nam Gym embodies this tradition: young boxers grow there with rigor, discipline, and passion, before blossoming in the most prestigious rings of Bangkok.

The Sit Mor Nam Gym camp was originally a very basic facility: rustic, lacking comfort, and with makeshift equipment. Yet this never dampened the determination of the young boxers who trained there with iron discipline. The results were promising, striking enough to attract attention beyond the region.

Thus, in 2024, this modest provincial camp was selected among many others to receive exceptional assistance: a check for 500,000 baht, generously donated by Chatri Sityodtong, the president of the renowned ONE Championship organization. This donation was part of a program to support the development of Muay Thai in the Sisaket province.

Before the arrival of the generous donor Chatri Sityodtong, the Sit Mor Nam Gym was a camp with poor infrastructure, built with the means at hand, but driven by the passion and determination of its founders
It is a landmark moment in the history of the boxing camp: Chatri Sityodtong, an iconic figure of modern Muay Thai and boss of ONE Championship, presented Team Sit Mor Nam Gym with a check for 500,000 baht to support their development

Thanks to this invaluable support, the camp was able to be completely renovated. A brand new, modern and functional structure now offers optimal training conditions for young Muay Thai hopefuls. The camp now also bears the name “Alongkorn Muay Thai Gym.”

The structure of the new Sit Mor Nam Gym is now worthy of a large boxing camp

The fruits of this transformation were soon felt: in less than a year, four young talents from Sit Mor Nam Gym won provincial champion belts, making their coaches proud and establishing the camp’s reputation throughout the Sisaket region.

The Sit Mor Nam Gym camp can now boast of having trained true Muay Thai prodigies, several of whom have already shone in regional rings. Among them, Wanmongkol Sit Mor Nam, only 9 years old, boasts an impressive record with more than 40 fights to his name. Already a multiple-time Sisaket regional champion, he has also won the Isaan regional title, a remarkable feat for such a young age.

Alongside him, Payakmongkol Sit Mor Nam, the Isaan regional champion at age 11, confirms the level of excellence of the new generation trained at the camp. Three other young talents, Mongkolphet, Yodaykwui, and Thepmongkol Sit Mor Nam, have earned belts in the Sisaket region, solidifying the camp’s reputation as one of the most successful in the Sisaket region.

The Sit Mor Nam Gym isn’t just about its reigning champions. It also boasts some very talented up-and-coming boxers, such as Yodpayak, Mongkolsap, Chetmongkol, and Petchmorakot Sit Mor Nam. Among them, one fighter also stands out: Petchsaichon Sit Mor Nam, Kru Nui’s own daughter. A champion of the Ubon Ratchathani region, she is a formidable boxer, inspired by her idol, the female Muay Thai star “Stamp Fairtex,” whose t-shirt she proudly wears in each of her fights.

Khru Nui doesn’t have to look far for the source of his greatest pride: his own daughter, Petchsaichon, is making her way in the rings, using only the strength of her fists

Today, the camp has a dozen young fighters, including two girls, mostly between the ages of 8 and 12. The oldest are 16 and 17, and all train under the watchful eye of two experienced coaches.

The Sit Mor Nam Gym remains open to foreigners, whether curious or passionate about Muay Thai, seeking authenticity. However, the camp does not offer accommodations, and it can be difficult for adults to train alongside children, as the vast majority of fighters are very young.

Sit Mor Nam Gym has received official certification as a professional boxing camp, issued by the SAT (Sports Authority of Thailand)
Before each training session, the camp’s youngest boxers are responsible for cleaning the premises
The boxers run an eight-kilometer run every morning, followed by a four-kilometer run in the afternoon
Jumping rope is performed directly after the run to maintain the warm-up and continue to boost cardio
To release pressure while remaining in the spirit of Muay Thai, the young boxers engage in light sparring, combining fun and muscle relaxation
The punching bag session at Sit Mor Nam Gym is intense: it lasts five to six sustained rounds
Massage, excellent for muscle recovery, is provided in the camp after each intense workout
