COMMANDO AND JOCKY GYM THAI BOXING

Jocky Gym was created in 1974 by Somat Hong Sakoun, one of the biggest technicians of Muay Thai of the 60s in Thailand. Somat is consultant of the television channel ITV and also on certain Thai radios. Sometimes, also promoter in the side of the great promoter of the stadium of Ratchadamnoen, Songchai Ratanasuban!

The house of Somat is 100 meters away from the camp in Soi Sii Namgneun (The Alley of Color Blue). More than forty years ago, the camp was called Sofoyo. But Somat changed the name in homage to one of his best fighters of time “Jocky Sitkanpaï”, a great champion of the Radja who was a fan of racehorses where from his nickname ” the Jockey “!

JOCKY SITKANPAI !

The camp has summary installations but surface of more than 200 m2. A big boxing ring, six punch bags and all the necessity for body-building appropriate to Muay Thai. In rooms the boxers sleep for three or four, showers and toilet are common. The shower is in Thai with a tray filled of cold water and a pan to catch the water…

The camp is situated in Bangkok in the district of Bang Pho, at the bottom of the Soï Sii Namgneun. ” Samlo ” (Three-wheeler) roam the alley to reach houses. And one of the drivers of samlo is “Palem”, a trainer of the Jocky Gym in particular the French champion Jean-Charles Skarbowsky!

Numerous champions went out of this camp which was one of the biggest of Bangkok, there was always some forty boxers who trained!

Today, in 2014, the camp is always opened but there are no more so many champions as in the 80s, 90 and 2000, which were the most beautiful years of one of the most prestigious camp of Thailand!

The camp was renamed ” Commando and Jocky Gym Thai Boxing “, and although it’s not filled with champions as in his nice time, the soul of legendary champions always plane in this mythical camp…

The best-known champions that made the heyday of Jocky Gym are Somrak Kamsing, Saenchai Sor Kingstar, Lerdsila Chumpairtour, Kaoklai Kaennorasing, Silapathai Jockygym, Robert Kaennorasing, Rolek Kaeonnorasing, Wangvisep Kaeonnorasing, Chaowarit Jockygym, Yotchaï Kaennorasing, Sonkom Jockygym and Patong Jockygym!

Somrak Kamsing. Gold medal boxing in the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996. Number 1 of Lumpinee and Radja for several years. 300 fights in Muay Thai and 200 fights in Boxing. Somrak create his own camp in the district of Bangkapi, many boxers train with him and Jocky Gym alternately.

Somrak Khamsing (Sometimes called Somluck Khamsing) is a true living legend in Thailand. His record is phenomenal both in Muay Thai that in Boxing. These Muay Thai techniques are spectacular, sometimes close to Muay Boran. In Boxing, he’s the first Thai boxer to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games. As the great champion Samart Payakaroon, Somrak is trying to film and the song which makes it even more famous in his country. He known throughout Asia and even today Japanese journalists often come interview with him!

Saenchai Sor Kingstar. Lumpinee Champion in – 52 Kg in 1997, at the age of 17 years, Lumpinee Champion in – 54 Kg in 1998, Lumpinee Champion in – 56 Kg in 2006, Lumpinee Champion in – 59 Kg in 2007, Lumpinee Champion in – 61 Kg in 2010, 4 times World Champion MTTA, WMC, WBC DIAMOND, WPMF, Toyota tournament winner in 2010 and 2013, Asian Champion in Boxing in – 57 Kg!

This fighter who was elected ” Best boxers of the year ” in 1999 and 2008 has sudden only two defeats by KO in his long career, when he was very young in 13 years and 15 years, and against the puncher Tongchai Thor Silachai in 18 years, since besides 300 fights he was never brought down!

Saenchai it’s the magician of boxing rings, he is endowed with an exceptional technique and all at once with a phenomenal eye, an inimitable boxer, as we see that once every 20 years. For more than ten years he’s considered in Thailand as the best fighter any confused category. His domination and the longevity in his category is unique. He’s a champion of the Lumpinee in five different categories!

SAENCHAI SOR KINGSTAR !

Lerdsila Chumpairtour. Champion of Radja in – 52 kg, – 55 kg and in 56 kg!

Lerdsila is as well a phenomenon of boxing rings in the same way as Saenchai, he has moreover a boxing similar to his former partner of boxing ring, a very technical and audacious boxing. Lerdsila remained a champion of the Radja during 4 years, from 2004 till 2008. It was by far with Saenchai and Anuwat Kaewsamrit, one of the boxers the most mediatized of the 2000s. His spectacular style was appreciated by the fans of Muay Thai!

Kaoklaï Kaennorasing. Champion of Radja in – 67 kg and – 70 kg!

Kaoklaï is one of the rare Thai fighters to have fought, in heavyweight, in the Japanese circuit of the famous tournament K1. Weighing no more than 75 kg, he faced Titans who were often heavier than him with sometimes 30 kg of gap in his disfavor, as Alexy Ignashov (105 kg) win on points, Ray Sefo (120 kg) lose in points, Mushashi (100 kg) lose in points, Mighty Mo (130 kg) victory by KO in the 1st round, Chong Hong Mai (2m20, 140 kg) lose in points and Mike Bernado (110 kg, 2m) lose in points!

KAOKLAI KAENNORASING !

Silapathai Jockygym. Champion of Radja in 108 lbs in 1991,  Champion of Radja in 122 lbs in 1994, Best Boxer Radja stadium of year 1992!

Silapathai is considered as one of the biggest boxers of his generation, he was an exceptional technician. Pipa, the chief trainer of the Jocky Gym says of Silapathai that he was for him the best boxer of the Jocky Gym so far!

Robert Kaennorasing says “Robeut” (Robert pronounced in Thai).

Champion of Radja in – 47 kg, – 57 kg and – 59 kg, Champion of the Tournament Isuzu in – 55 kg!

Robert Kaennorasing was in his time at the beginning of the 90s a real phenomenon. This wonder boy was one of the rare boxers to gain a belt of Radja in only 17 years!

His famous Ram Muay of the archer was appreciated by the aficionados of Muay Thai. Even after his retreat of boxing rings the magazines specialized in Thailand still speak about him!

Wangvisep is very respected in the world of Muay Thai for his big career in boxing but also as being the son of famous Kaendjaï Norrasing, one of the figures of Muay Thai the most known in the region of the Northeast. Wangvisep became a recognized trainer today, he walks in the steps of his father!

Pipa, was the chief trainer of the Joky Gym during almost 20 years, it’s one of the best trainers of Thailand. He formed most of the champions of the Jocky Gym such as Saenchai, Leudsila, Kaoklai, Chaowarit, Sonkom, Rolek, Somrak, Robert and Silapathai!

Pipa for his age possess an exceptional physical condition, furthermore he’s endowed with a flexibility deserving of master Yogi!

Chadet Ponsaknoisiichang nicknamed Pi Det. Champion of Lumpinee in – 48 kg, Three times champion of Thailand, 242 fights for 200 victories!

Pidet is one of the best trainers of the country in the same way as his colleague Pipa, he formed with Pipa big names of Muay Thai in Thailand. Somrak, Robert Kaennorasing, Silapathai, Leudsila and Saenchai often passed in paos with Master Pidet!

The first foreign champions to come to Jocky Gym were French Gilles Belloni and Philippe Cantamessi in the 80s!

Then, many foreign fighters came to train for Jocky Gym as Australian Timor Daal, Belgian Youssef Boughanem, the French Christophe Mertens, Rachid Kabourri, Max Dansan, Rémy Pariot,Tony Fiorelli, Antoine Pinto and Victor Pinto, and many others…

But the best foreign champions who represented Jocky Gym during several years are Stephan Nikiéma, Dany Bill and Jean-Charles Skarbowsky!

In the 90s, the great champion Stephan Nikiema stayed more than year in the camp Jocky Gym!

The winners of Nikiéma is remarkable with 98 fights for 79 wins (40 KO), 17 losses and 2 draws, three times champion of France, three times European Champion and three time World Champion!

This exceptional champion, author of fight of anthology, pure nak muay, fought during almost seventeen years worldwide. What was worth to him a lot of consideration on behalf of the boxers especially in Thailand where he’s enormously respected. He was nicknamed “Black Diesel” by Thai, they attributed him this fighter’s name because of his height and of his technical control of the knocks of knees. Because he looked like the famous champion of the 80s, Diesel Noy!

Stephan Nikiéma knows well Jocky Gym because since 1987 he goes regularly to his camp idol, a camp for which he fought of numerous time. Nikiéma afterward, often organized a seminars in Jocky Gym!

This legendary champion of the 90s opened his camp to Pattaya, Team Nikiema Muay Thai Academy where he teaches from now on his knowledge…

Dany Bill ” Black Panther ” was 9 times a world champion and 3 times a champion of France, he made 96 fights, for 87 victories (40 KO) and 9 defeats!

Dany Bill it’s the magician of boxing rings, at the world level, he is classified among the biggest technicians of these last twenty years!

Finally, Jean-Charles Skarbowsky was the last great champion has to represent successfully Jocky Gym, he fought for this camp from 2001 till 2006!

Jean-Charles Skarbowsky ” Dragon Tattoo ” was 3 times Champion of Europe, classified N° 1 in the stadium of Radja in 2003 and 2006, and N° 4 in 2005. His fight record’s is 97 Fights, 74 victories (50 KO), 20 defeats and 2 draws!

Skarbowsky nicknamed “Chong” by the Thai champions was the only European one must to be classified N° 1 in the mythical stadium of Ratchadamnoen of Bangkok. This exceptional warrior also was one of the rare foreigners to the world to fight in the stadium of Lumpinee in “Main Fight”, it’s the fighter the most known in Thailand since the time of the great Ramon Dekkers!
