THE P.K. STEREO CAMP

Special report by Serge TREFEU (2011)

The P.K. Stereo camp exists since about twenty years and his owner names Mr. Tawatchai Lerdthanakunwat. Previously the camp was called Sitkuanim, it changed name to adopt the name of his sponsor, the P.K. Stereo.

P.K. Stereo is a brand of loudspeaker of car whose factory is just next to the camp. But recently it has again just changed name and becomes the P.K. Muaythai Gym.

The camp is situated near the avenue Satuphradit in the South of Bangkok at the end of a tiny soi (alley), the soi Thakuntho. The structure of the camp is small and includes only two punch bags and a boxing ring in height. The rooms of the boxers is above the main entrance.

Formerly, the P.K. Stereo had within it about twenty high-level boxers. Nowadays they are not more than fighters’ handful to represent the camp…

The first great champion of the camp was Nalat Sitkuanim, 15 years ago Nalat gained the belt of Radja in 122 lbs. Then it is Theparit Sitkuanim, certainly the best fighter that had the P.K camp. Stereo. Theparit gained the belt of Radja in 135 lbs as well as World Champion WMC’s belt.

Then a few years later it is Chutin Sitkuanim who has also took a belt of Radja in 122 lbs and Bounlek Sitkuanim who gained the belt of Radja in 118 lbs. Finally, in 2004, Omsin Sitkuanim was Thailand Champion in 135 lbs and in 2006, Chanwit Sitkuanim Radja champion in 130 lbs.

Today, the camp possesses all the same two champions of the stadium of Radajdamnern, both current champions in 126 lbs and in 147 lbs.

The first one in 147 lbs is Namphon P.K. Stereo, a rangy boxer, very technical, who beat champions as Lom-Esarn Sor. Chockkitchai, Chanachai Kaewsamrit, Kongjak Sor Tuantong, Dernchonlek Sor Sor Niyom and the great English champion Liam Harrison!
Namphon was World champion WMC in 135 lbs and in 140 lbs in 2007. In 2010, he conquered the belt of Radja in 147 lbs against Chanachai Kaewsamrit, belt that he holds even today.

The second is Sirimongkon P.K. Stereo which gained the belt of Radja in 122 lbs in 2010 then in 2012 he took away the belt of Radja in 126 lbs against Naka Kaewsamrit. It’s a very strong fighter in clinch who beat champions such as Tapaotong Eminentair, Sitthichai Somphoprungruang and Chartchai Kiat Yongyut!
In the P.K. Stereo there is even also good fighters for Dendanai P.K.Stereo who gained a belt of Radja in 118 lbs in 2006, Withayanoi Sitkuanim who was N ° 1 of Radja in 140 lbs in 2008 and Yotkrienkrai P.K. Stereo, a very strong young person who beat in particular, in 2010, the French champion Xavier Bastard during France against Thailand wich tooke place in the stadium of Radjadamnern.

In this camp the sessions in Boxing are enormously worked, a special sparring in Boxing takes place three times a week. The professional boxers in Boxing have as well to represent the camp and most hardly of them is without context Fahprakorb. This rough fighter was Champion of Asia and Intercontinental champion IBF with all in all 55 fights Professional for 51 victories (34 KO). Fahprakorb fought twice for the championship of the World IBF, the first time he lost by KO against the star Manny Pacquio and the second time he is be defeated to points in front of Brazilian Valdemir Pereira!

The nakmuays of the P.K. Stereo fights practically that in the stadium of Radjadamnern because their promoter of always is Chujarean Raveearamwong (Chuwattana Gym), the biggest promoter of the Radja after Songchai Ratanasuban.

The morning training begins at about 6 am to end at 9 am. The daily jogging in Bangkok is about 12 km. The training of him after noon the beginning enough early at 3 pm for finity at about 6 pm. The rounds here are extremely long, whether it is for the session in paos or session in punch bags, the round last 9 minutes every time instead of traditional 3 minutes. Five rounds of paos of 9 minutes just with one minute of rest, no such thing to have a staunch physical condition!

Rare are the foreigners who tested the training in the P.K. Stereo, until today only Japanese, English and the American champion Kevin Ross stayed in the camp. But the boss opens his doors with pleasure to “farangs” (foreign). The training for the foreigners costs 500 bahts for two sessions with the lunch, without the accommodation of course…
