Since the 60s, to see before, the press always gave important information, onto the fights, the camps, the champions, the trainers, the promoters, in short, all what turns around the sport King of the country, the Muay Thai…
Among the first big magazines, in the 60’s and 70’s, there had magazines for “KILA MUAY”, “SPORT MUAYTHAI” and “FIGHTER”.

These newspapers, for the oldest, became real archives which allow of kept in memoirs all the great champions who made the history of Muay Thai, and they are many!
Certain boxers became legends of boxing rings, the others of the less known champions, but all have to mark with their imprint their passage in the long history of Muay Thai. Today still, even if Muay Thai gets out of breath little in Thailand, the generation of the young champions is very present and it considers good to write a new page of the history of Muay Thai…
The Thai specialized magazines are real historic encyclopediae, invaluable documents on the story of the Thai champions!
Here are unique photos of great champions of the glorious time of Muay Thai, champions who made « The front page » of the magazines of the 60’s to 90’s. But also photos of champions’ new generation, 2000’s in today. And some legends from the 30’s to the 90’s…

LEGENDS OF 30 YEARS TO 90
SAMARN DILOKVILAS
« GENTLEMAN OF SIAM »

Dominated the fight scene in the 30’s, completly so in muaythai, losing only once and drew twice in boxing against arch-rival Somphong at Lakmuang arena. Campaign in Malaysia and Burma was just a sucessful. In Muaythai, he fought Somphong to a 10 round draw at Sararom Palace (1933) and won a 6 rounder in Pattani (1936). A last boxing encounter at Suan. Chaochet ended in a draw. He made a comeback after the war, only two lose twice to Sukh.
SUKH PRASARTHINPIMAI
« FLUORESCENT DEMON »

35 year old former homicide convict became national grand champion and Idol in 1948 soon after release. Lost to Surachai (points) and Chuchai (KO) 3 years later but fought until 1953. A legend of all-time.
« GHOST TIGER »

While having just outfought the ageless Sukh, and beaten Somsri for the first Radjadamoen title in 160 lbs, the shiny star from Cholburi with superb kicking and a fierce attacking style was ambushed and killed inside a Bankapi brothel. His death remains one of the biggest tragedy and mistery in muaythai history.
APIDEJ SIDHIRAN
« THE WHIRHWIND KICKER »

Undisputed King of muaythai in the 60’s. Won OBF welterweight crown (65), but lost in following year, in muaythai, to Danchai and Dejrit. Regained throne by KO over Dejrit in 68. He was 42 when lost on TKO to Japan’s Yasunori Suda in Hong Kong (83). A feared champion in his prime and definitely one of the greatest of all-time.
PHUT LAOLEK
« COMET OF THE SOUTH »

Undisputed King of muaythai 1974-77 with a flashy, all-round and colourful style. His talent was fully demonstrated in 3 victories (out of 4 bouts) over the fearsome Saensak , beating Kongdej twice, Srimongkhol once, and a brilliant triumph in the 1975 fight of the year against Vicharnoi, that set a million baht gate record.
DIESELNOI CHOR THANASUKARN
« KING OF THE SKY PIERCING KNEES »

The 6’1” tall brawler was underfeated who he retired in 1985, after beating such classy opposition as Porsai, Vicharnoi, Khaosod, Raktae, Khaopong, Samart, Sakad and Krongsak. He also scored a kayo against American WKA world champion John Moncayo in Los Angeles in a fierce contest.
CHANGPUEK KIATSONGKRIT
« THE SUPER ELEPHANT »

The strongest welterweight boxer in Thailand in the 90’s. Beat Krongsak, Raklae (twice) and Kayood Payap for that status. Fought Kaman 4 times won in Paris (89), Bangkok (90) and Tokyo (93), only lost (90) in Holland. Outscored Smit in the « dirtiest » fight at Lumpinee stadium (90). First Thai boxer to fight for K1 GP, but suffered Kayo by Citakic for quarter final K1, he was still active in 2004.
