NUNGUBON SITLERCHAI: Very well, Thank you!

How old are you?

I am 42 years old

You come of what region of the Thailand?

I was born near Ubon Ratchathani in the region of the Northeast, my fighter’s name is Nungubon Sitlerchai and my born name is Samorn Kwamsawat!

You are married, do you have children?

Yes I’m married and I have a child, a son

Your son fight?

Yes he trains in Muay Thai and also fights…

You have brothers and sisters?

I have seven brothers and sisters!

Your brothers were boxers also?

My older brother was a good boxer!

You began the boxing at which age?

I began the boxing at the age of 7

YOUNG SAMORN STARTED TO VERY EARLY BOXING!

How you discovered the boxing?

I looked at the matches at the TV and my older brother better made me this sport known then…

In what camp you began your training?

Was not it in a camp, I trained at home, at the house. I was formed by Master Lertchai. Then, towards the age of 16 years, I went to a camp in the city of Ubon Ratchathani, Por Muang Ubon Gym…

You fought a lot in the region of Isaan?

Yes a lot

Towards what age you have make your first fight in Bangkok?

In the age of 18 years I have make my first fight in Bangkok

In what category you fought?

At first in 42 kilos then in 55 kilos, and my category of fighter during my career was between 118 and 120 lbs…

What are the titles which you gained?

I gained four belts of Lumpinee in four different categories!

Against what opponents you gained your belts?

I gained my first belt of Lumpinee in 105 lbs against Kompayak Singmanee in 1990, then the belt in 112 lbs against Langsuan Phanyuthapum in 1991, the belt in 115 lbs against Yodsiam Sor Pranthalai in 1995 and finally the belt in 118 lbs against Saenchai Sor Kingstar in 1999!

How much have you make of fights?

I have make 233 fights for 200 victories, 30 defeats and 3 draws!

You gained a lot of fight by KO?

Not enormously…

You had which style of boxing?

I was a technical and strong boxer with fists…

What was your technique preferred in fight?

The middle with my left leg!

What was your hardest fight?

All the fights are hard but I think that my fights against Karuhat were difficult, we were three times in confrontation, he beat me twice and we made a no-contest…

Your best memory of boxing?

My first belt of Lumpinee, a good memory!

What are the known Thai fighters that you faced?

There was a lot Jaroensap, Wangchainoi, Paluhadlek, Sakmongkol, Kaensak, Tongchai, Karuhat, Rambo, Lipidet, Kompayak, Boonlai, Hansek, Langsuan, Silapathai, Samkor, Saenchai…

No but I would like to go to fight abroad, even today I can still to fight!

Not too much…

What is according to you the best foreign fighter?

I think that the French fighters are very good…

And the best Thai fighter today, it’s who for you?

I don’t know…

What was your purse in Thailand?

I touched of good purse, my biggest purse was 180 000 bahts!

You earn a good living thanks to Muay Thai?

Yes very well, I was able to buy my house and to open my camp of boxing to Ubon!

You have your own camp now?

Yes I teach Ubon, my camp is called Sit Nungubon Gym, here is address:

It’s necessary to have a good level to come to train in your camp?

Everybody is welcome, the beginners as the professionals can come to train in my camp, there is me and three other trainers to frame the pupils of all the levels. We have rooms in the camp to welcome the foreign boxers also…

Nungubon ” N°1 of Ubon ” made left the great champions of the golden age of Muay Thai in Thailand. In the 90s, this tremendous fighter was nicknamed “Tuan Pey” (The lame). This nickname comes of made that Nungubon has a shorter leg than the other one, his right leg is shorter than his left leg. But this small handicaps didn’t prevent Nungubon from possessing a power of phenomenal striking with his left leg, a precise and powerful left middle which hurt a lot of his opponents!

Stemming from the famous Por Muang Ubon camp, Nungubon was formed along with other great champions such as the bull rings of boxing Orono Por Muang Ubon and redoubtable Nungtrakarn Por Muang Ubon!

Nungubon faced all the best of his category and beat great champion as Tongchai Tor Silachai, Hansek Prasatinpanomrung, Silapathai Jocky Gym, Paluhadlek Sitchuntong, Lipidet Sor Ploenchit, Jaroensap Kiatbanchong, Kaensak Sor Ploenchit, Duangsompong Por Pongsawan and Kompayak Singmanee !

Nungubon is one of the rare fighters to have beaten by KO terrible Wangchainoi Sor Palangchai whom he beat in the second round and legendary Samkor Kiatmontep, strike down in the third round!

So, Nungubon annihilate the great champion Langsuan Phanyuthapum who lost by TKO having been opened to the face, for this fight, the belt of Lumpinee in 112 lbs was at stake!

NUNGUBON VS SAMKOR

At the age of 28, in 1999, Nungubon beat the boy wonder of the Muay Thai, Saenchai Sor Kingstar and gained his last belt of Lumpinee. During this fight, Saenchai was 19-year-old, in full ascent, titleholder of the Lumpinee in 118 lbs, he had beaten everybody in this category. It’s moreover in 1999 when Saenchai received his first trophy from “Best fighter of the year”. But former Nungubon overcame the young gifted child of boxing rings and he has rob of his belt!

NUNGUBON VS SAENCHAI, FOR LUMPINEE BELT IN 118 LBS

Nungubon was also very strong in Boxing. He made a remarkable career by taking away three times the title PABA in bantamweight with to his credit sixteen professional fights for fifteen victories!

Nungubon is today 42-year-old but he always likes fighting on the boxing ring. In 2008, in 36 years, in Germany he had fought in the category of 63 kg against the German champion Valdet Gashi who beat him in points…

In March 2013, at the age of 41, he met again his old opponent legendary Jaroensap Kiatbanchong in the stadium of Radja. Both champions it was six times already faced with two victories for Nungubon, three victories for Jaroensap and a draw. For their seventh confrontation, it’s Jaroensap who won at points. The indefatigable champions still met themselves in December of the same year but this time in the stadium of Lumpinee, and it’s again Jaroensap who gained the match at points…
